If you are out of ideas and want to try something new with your photos, then you should take a look at DMesh. This simple application can transform a picture into "techy artwork", as the developer describes it. Everything is done automatically, so you only need to load a photo and the application will turn it into a mesh, composed of numerous triangles.

DMesh is available in free and paid versions, for Windows, Mac OS X and iOS. It comes as a single executable, which you have to extract and run, so there is no need to go through an installation process. The application doesn't have any special requirements and its memory usage is insignificant.

As previously mentioned, all you have to do is import a picture, through a standard Open dialog or by simply dragging and dropping the file over the application's plain and simple user interface. Once you load an image, DMesh will take only a few seconds to analyze the picture, after which it will instantly generate and display a triangulation pattern based on the original image.

The end result is essentially the original image made out of polygons, which make it look like an Origami figure. The polygons are highlighted by dots, placed on their corners. You may click existing dots to remove polygons or click anywhere else on the image to add new ones. Alternatively, you can use an eraser to get rid of a larger number of dots faster.

All available options are displayed on a small panel, which can be moved anywhere within the main interface. Besides options for loading or saving images, you can also find options to hide or reveal the aforementioned dots, the original image, the background or the triangle mesh. The final product can be saved as an image, a vector file or as an OBJ file.

Pros

You can transform any image into a triangulation mesh almost instantly. The application allows you to manipulate the mesh and make other fine tweaks. Also, it places three output options at your disposal.

Cons

The free version is a bit limited, compared to the Pro edition. If you are looking for fresh and creative ideas, then DMesh is definitely something you want to try.
